Are there any prerequisites to start CrossFit? Absolutely not! We often have people ask if they need to be in shape to start CrossFit and we are happy when it comes up because it is our chance to teach people about the real purpose of CrossFit. No, you don’t have to be in shape to start but once you begin and stay committed you will see your fitness improve greatly and you will feel more energized also.
CrossFit is a fitness program to help get you in shape. When someone hears the word CrossFit the first thing they usually think of is the elite games athletes. Those athletes are a very small minority within the CrossFit community but of course they receive a lot of publicity so why wouldn’t that be your first thought? CrossFit was created for the majority – the people who just want to get fitter and healthier. And that is our focus at CF Dagda. You don’t need to have any experience to get started. We teach you everything you need to know before starting classes and we coach everyone during classes also. The competitive side within CrossFit is just a platform for people to test their fitness – it isn’t what CrossFit is really about.
There are many people who struggle to jog 100m and CrossFit is the perfect program to help them get fitter and healthier. Why? Because the high intensity workouts really help you lose weight and you can scale each workout so that it is suitable for you, no matter what your fitness level is. At CrossFit Dagda we focus on creating a better lifestyle – not just getting the workout completed.
CrossFit can seem intimidating at the beginning but once you get started with the right coach, you will soon realize that you are capable, and you will improve every day. The words ‘high intensity’ can also be intimidating but we want you to know that you can do it! When you have supportive people around you, with the same goals (to get through the workout, lose weight, get better etc..) it is extremely motivating, and you will surprise yourself every day. Many people end up doing so much more than they ever thought they were capable of. That has a lot to do with the support of the coaches and the other athletes around you. The main thing is to stay consistent, so you can feel the benefits. We recommend doing 3 CrossFit classes per week to get started – that is only 3 hours out of your week!
CrossFit works – it takes time and effort but it feels effortless when you have supportive people around you. The hardest part is stepping foot inside the gym – especially the first time! But once you do, you will never look back and it will be the best decision you ever made to positively impact your health and add years to your life! You do NOT have to be in shape to get started.
